merry xmas to me and stuff
sooo, like my poor, little monitor finally got to the point that i could barely read anything on it. it was so dark and fuzzy... it was just sad really.
poor monitor.
:(
the female parental unit asked me a while back what i wanted for greedy kid's day, so i told her.
she couldn't find it.
oh well.
so i told her my monitor was probably gonna pass on to the next life and that i needed another one.
one of the female sibling units called around to some of the computer shops near her work, and happened to find a few used monitors. which was cool, as i don't care if it's new or not, i just want one that actually WORKS.
this one place had two used monitors in stock, and one of them was a 19 inch flat panel monitor for a pretty reasonable price.
at first, i was thinking lcd monitor, but i knew for that price it couldn't be.
as it turns out i was right.
after getting the REAL information on the "flat screen" monitor, i still thought it was a good price, so they got it.
the female sibling unit brought it by late yesterday, and since it was for me, i got to carry it in.
not that i'm complaining, much, but... that's just mean.
i think they wanted to see me drop it.
so after a few hours of dragging it by its cord, i managed to lug it into the house, up a few steps, and eventually to my berry own room. then i actually got it on my desk.
now keep in mind that this is a used monitor, it has no instructions or anything else with it.
what it did have was a little, sticky piece of paper attached, which had the price and "19 inch monitor" written on it.
well, the price was right, the fact that it was a monitor was right, but the size was wrong.
while i'm not like a super expert on monitors or anything, the fact that it was so dang heavy and it dwarfs any monitor i had ever used before kind of clued me in a bit.
i looked up the model number (which was printed on the back of the monitor) and discovered, not to my surprise, that it's actually 21 inch.
ummm, does that kind of thing happen a lot?
so now all i need is a bigger desk. :|
i have a feeling that i'm either going to go blind, or get a wireless keyboard so i can go sit in the hall.
granted, at least i can actually read what's on the screen, but now i feel like i'm in a movie theatre or something?
it only took me about 30 minutes to figure out how to adjust the monitor settings so the screen didn't jump every time i opened a window. that combined with brightness levels that could possibly put the sun to shame were somewhat annoying. i was starting to suspect that that was the reason the price was so low. actually it very well could have been. had i not clicked on a VERY out of the way setting, i might have considered returning it, maybe.
that one little setting fixed the screen flicker and the brightness all at one time.
isn't that great?
and i still have no idea wth it was for.
though technically, i still haven't found any brightness or contrast settings...
oh well, now if i can figure out how to move it about two feet further away from my chair i might be okay.
okay, so, now i feel even smaller than usual.
i guess i'm happy that i can play on the computer some more, as the last several, several weeks have pretty much sucked. trying to read super fuzzy stuff gives me a noggin ache.
a few months ago i started learning a little bit about cascading style sheets, as i wanted to make what few web pages i made look a little better.
you know what?
the more i learn about them, the more i like them.
you can do some pretty neat things with css.
mostly what i currently use it for is reformatting fanfiction stories that i find online, and make them more appealing... to me at least.
a lot of the fanfiction sites i frequent have all of their content as plain text files. which is okay, but highly boring.
i happen to like a little color, and a LOT less white on pages. black text on a white background REALLY annoys me.
i think css is really great, but some of it is beyond me (for the moment any ways).
i was finally able to put to use a rather nifty feature in opera (that's a web browser), that lets you use your own style sheet.
believe me when i say this, THAT'S REALLY COOL!
i've been to a LOT of sites that use css to format their pages, that didn't do things in a way that i found pleasing, or in some cases even legible. any site that sets their fonts to a fixed size can go rot!
that's just mean!
i guess i noticed it so much before because my previous monitor was so small. they really need to take that kind of thing into account.
sim eun jin (formerly of baby v.o.x) released her first solo album recently.
i never could figure out who the lead singer of baby v.o.x was, or if they even had one.
pretty sad, isn't it?
even after seeing some of their music videos, it didn't help much.
i feel weird.
it's kind of like when i first got some real speakers for the pc. you know, something that didn't sound like it came from the bargain bin at the ยข10 store.
pretty much the first thing i did after the monitor was "configured" properly was watch some anime.
that was fun. considering that it's nearly twice the size of my poor, little tv, it was rather interesting.
watch this ...eGGie eGGie eGGie eGGie eGGie...
is weird, yes?
HA! i found a pdf user manual online for a "similar" monitor. brightness and contrast have now been set!
i so happy!
well, sort of. it does make things a little more tolerable.
you know, had i not been blinded by the monitor itself, i might have noticed the little "contrast" and "brightness" icons on the front.
i'm sure i would have noticed them eventually... after i turned the monitor off.
i'm so bored, and boring too.
lil' blog, you look a lot biggerer too!
be good. ;)

Gosh. 21 inches. Well, that usually means that the viewable area is about 20.2 inches, but it's still huge. :) The trick is to use a very small resolution and then open lots of windows. Makes it look even more impressive! :D
Know what's weird? My monitor looks much biggerer when I put my contact lenses on. But so does my keyboard. Nothing else looks bigger. Just those 2 things.
So, you've been updating your blog even though you could barely read off your monitor. I'm impressed at your dedication. :)

Lead singer of Baby VOX. Never got into them. But have you noticed that the leader of Morning Musume always seems to be the one that sings the least and gets to be in the front the least?

Merry greedy kids day! :)
