just another day...

so i was looking around the internet the other day, and i discovered that this is where to go, if you want to express your inner geek.

i think they made this just for me.

~*~

i've gotten into the habit of making vocabulary lists for myself.

is weird, yes?

i know, what am i, in grade school?

well, no, but i think it's a rather fun thing to do, and it helps to keep my own speech from being overly boring and entirely monotonous.

soooo, the word for today is klaxon

is cool word, yes?

see if you can use it in a sentence!

~*~

gonna tell ya a story. a true story, about one of the female sibling units — the wannabe nurse critter — the one that recently started smoking even...

she went to the doctor the other day, yearly physical or something like that.

keep in mind, she already knew she had a heart murmur.

now, through no fault of her own of course, it's a lot worse.

guess what the good doctor told her...

  • she has to stop smoking, immediately.
  • she's most likely going to have to have open heart surgery to have a heart valve replaced.
  • she can't work double shifts at the nursing home place anymore.
  • she has to follow a rather specific exercise program.
  • she can never have children.
  • etc., etc., etc.

she's only 21 years old.

to look at her, you would probably think that she was in very good health... she's not over weight, and her diet isn't all that bad (though me being a vegetabletarian, i think it could be better).

she's also one of the more active people i know...

she can blame the parental units for defective genes i suppose, not that it'll do much good.

she's still in school, working a job, got her whole entire life-mess ahead of her.

or not.

life's a big pile of poo, then you die. hopefully not anytime soon, but you never know...

wasn't that a great story?

~*~

while i told her from the beginning that smoking was silly, icky, and just plain dumb, she never listened.

honestly, i don't know if her smoking is what triggered anything, but it's always a possibility.

and with everything else that has happened to her, i wouldn't count it out.

though how someone who obsesses over how they look, smell, and how white their teeth are can even consider smoking is beyond me.

and i'm quite thankful for that.

i can think of several reasons why someone would smoke, use alcohol and/or drugs, but i can honestly say that none of those things have ever appealed to me.

i've always felt that certain things in life can make you stronger. if nothing else, you could consider them to be learning experiences. perhaps at some point you could pass on what you've learned to someone else. in turn, they could hopefully avoid anything unpleasant that would have otherwise occurred. (wasn't that just the wordiest?)

-sigh-

i have a feeling that she's going to do something really stupid.

well, more stupid than usual, that is.

~*~

watch out for crazy, crying people lil' blog, especially when they're driving!

eGGie's list of wonderful links, part 23

Earth's time lords make new year wait a second

yes, it's true, there are people on planet earth who actually have the ability to control time.

is amazing, yes?

~*~

Password-Stealing Trojan Snares Spanish Speakers

thankfully, i only have japanese speakers.

~*~

Scientists to say if your bum really does look big

eGGie says, them scientists gonna get smacked.

besides, i always thought when a girl talked about her bum, she was referring to the idiot that she married.

guess it helps that i'm not an engrish eGGie.

lah!

~*~

found this nifty map website.

i was doing a little research for one of my stories, when i discovered i didn't have any detailed maps of china.

sad, isn't it?

that's a most nifty site, and they have all sorts of maps:

  • agricultural
  • ethnolinguistic
  • political
  • population
  • precipitation
  • shaded relief
  • etc...

the list goes on and on!

and best of all, they're all free!

keep an eye on the file size though, as some of them are really big. if you don't have a fast internet connection, it will probably take a while to download.

~*~

this site is just scary, but a rather interesting read. all i can say is, i hope it's real fact-based journalism, and not another site designed to shock and confuse people.

~*~

got a tiny monitor?

forgot your glasses and can't read what's on the screen?

this'll make you happy!

~*~

so there's this photographer, right?

he got in trouble for taking pictures of a man riding his bicycle over an open manhole cover.

it was raining, and the road was somewhat flooded, so the poor guy on the bike didn't even know what was going on after he hit it.

do you think the photographer should have warned him, instead of just sitting around waiting to take pictures?

personally, i think they should have dropped the photographer and his camera into the hole... preferably upside down. :P

~*~

well this is just nifty, not that i have an electric bill, but if i did...

i'd want one of these, so i'd know which mean old appliances was sending me to the poor house. :(

~*~

as much as i love them (and their country), the japanese never fail to scare me!

~*~

if anyone ever buys this book for me, i'm gonna hit em in the head with it! though i'd still probably read it. :P

~*~

that'll give you something to read for a little while lil' blog!

is dangerous, yes?

so, i saw this silly little video, right?

this guy takes some mentos candies and drops 'em in a bottle of soda, which in turn makes a soda geyser...

oops!

at first i thought it was slightly amusing, especially since both the silly human critters got sprayed with soda, but then i started wondering...

what would happen to some silly person if they happen to eat some mentos then drink some soda?

would it just rush back out their mouth?

would they explode?

would anything happen at all?

try it and see, then let me know what happens, okay?

:D

*and in case you were wondering, yes, the video was actually that blurry.

~*~

but don't you do it lil' blog!

sounds too too dangerous!

;)

are ya bored yet?

Pluto probe could give clues to origin of life

great article. not.

of course!

it's sooooo obvious!

why didn't they think of it sooner?!?

i mean, seriously, if they can't prove the origins of life on a planet THAT ALREADY SUPPORTS LIFE...

then gee whiz, let's go look on a planet, that's not really a planet, a bazillion miles from the sun.

got to hand it to them though, at least it looks good on paper... and i bet the bill for this one is gonna suck too.

supposedly the information they will get from this most historical of expeditions will allow them to determine how ice freezes... or something.

somehow i doubt that any experiments involving a planet (read: giant ball-o-ice) without an atmosphere (at all) will help with anything even remotely associated with the creation of life in the universe.

what exactly did spending billions of dollars on mars missions accomplish?

nothing.

they still know less than they did when they started.

oh, i know!

why don't they send some brave (read: dumber than martian dirt) men to mars?

that would be cool.

providing, of course, they do it after i'm dead. they're talented enough that they would bring back some weird martian fungus and kill everything on earth.

while that would probably be entertaining, i doubt anyone would really appreciate it.

what precisely would having information about anything not on planet earth actually be good for?

sure, there are those that say we should look out for falling apples asteroids, but so what?

why bother worrying over something you can't do anything about?

though if the earth's atmosphere starts disappearing any faster, what little protection we do have isn't going to last long anyway. :P

anywho, the probe box thingie is supposed to arrive in the vicinity of pluto sometime in 2015.

you just know some lucky idiot is going to get the job of monitoring the thing while it flies through space.

what's he gonna do, stare at a blinking light for the next ten years?

~*~

also in the news...

Dutch may have complete skeleton of Dodo bird

why do they care?

what difference would it make?

humans hunted the bird into extinction.

what they should do, is reclassify the dodo bird as the "trusting bird", and reclassify human critters as dodos, or maybe "sadistic poo-heads of mass destruction".

i'm kinda partial to that last one. :P

~*~

see what happens when i visit g00gle news?

sad, isn't it?

them newsies are a bunch of liars lil' blog!

be good and stuff. ;)

nooz 2 me

i was unaware that morning musume had a leader. i was under the impression that it was a gaggle of girls - who could occasionally carry a tune (in a bucket), but was much better at impersonating "the two left feet brigade".

sorry, felt like being cruel and heartless.

i'm probably going to taco bell for that.

their bean burritos are pretty good, providing all they put on them is beans.

~*~

you know, when i was a bit younger, i actually looked forward to christmas.

now i don't care.

it probably doesn't help much that i have a better understanding of why people do what they do, and it usually isn't for anyone else's benefit.

i didn't ask for anything for christmas, though the female parental unit did ask me.

it was nice of her.

guess what the wannabe nurse got from her for christmas.

the female parental unit paid her cell phone bill.

my monitor was ever-so-slightly cheaper.

what a maroon.

at least i have something to show for it.

~*~

okay, i'm trying, i really am...

i just watched the cast from the sailor moon (live) musical sing "jingle bells".

i thought that the costumes and things from the live-action series were... uh ...nauseating (and they were), but these... these just scare me!

though i have to admit, they can sing.

i'm not sure about the other character's wigs, but i'm pretty sure sailor moon's hair was made from yellow yarn... really cheap yellow yarn.

it's all in good fun i guess, but still...

you'd think they'd put a little more effort into making the performance look more professional, as opposed to a school play.

or not.

but seriously, i've seen cosplay outfits on ebay that look better than that!

yeah, i know, i've got a mean streak an inch wide, and i'm letting it out on xmas!

yay!

~*~

maybe i'll just watch some regular old sailor moon anime... regardless of how dire their situations may get (or maybe because of them) it always cheers me up.

how many people do you know that watch horror movies to make themselves feel better?

i've done that as far back as i can remember, sort of, maybe.

well... for a while at least. :P

my life can get pretty bad sometimes, but i've never had anybody chase me with a chainsaw... yet.

~*~

a couple of my favorite fanfiction authors were nice enough to update some of their most nifty of ranma stories!

is great, yes?

nothing like a good ranma story to brighten your day!

or mine at least. :P

~*~

watched howl's moving castle... again.

that's a very cool movie!

even though it was adapted from an engrish novel, you really should watch it with the japanese audio, and engrish subtitles, more fun that way.

as you should with all ghibli studio movies!

have you ever noticed how easy it is to dislike certain characters, whether it be in film or in writing?

while this story didn't do too badly in that respect, i found it very easy to dislike most everyone except the four main characters: sophie, howl, calcifer, and markl. everyone else just annoyed me to no end. not that that is all that difficult, but still... i'd rather there be more "good guys" than bad. seriously, calcifer was a demon, and he was easier to like than most of the human critters!

~*~

i had thought about something last night (right after i went to bed) that i wanted to blog about, but... gee, i forgot. must have been really important?

oh well, i'm sure it would have just made lots and lots of human critters happy.

i have a tendency to think of rather unusual things when i'm half asleep.

i think i'll get a little tape recorder thingie to keep notes with, as writing things down in the dark has never worked too well for me, and yes, i've tried. :P

~*~

a few months ago i found a japanese blog site, and much like bl0gger, they post some of their more popular and currently updated blogs on their main page. while i couldn't read much of what was listed there, i did find a few that were interesting, and even more that were just bizarre!

there was one site that stuck in my mind, as the person there seemed to enjoy photographing herself eating... a lot.

i know, it's weird.

as i was looking through another site, there was a picture of the girl from the food blog i had found earlier, and i'm like wth?

as it turns out, she was a singer from a small group that is relatively popular, if new, in japan.

it seems she spends a lot of time on the road, and as a hobby? she likes to sample lots of various food stuffs during their travels, then commemorate the moment with a digital photograph.

hey, whatever makes you happy, i guess.

there are definitely worse things she could be doing with her time.

of course, being the curious eGGie that i am, i managed to track down one of her music videos.

i think i'll just stick with remembering her as the weird food blog girl from japan.

~*~

saw this silly flash video yesterday, had ahnold schwarzenegger in a "sesame street-esque" story with all of his political friends/komrads. it was kind of funnie, but mostly demeaning... to him.

~*~

if i'm still awake, i'll post something else later... after all the crazy people that show up this time of year to steal food have vacated the premises.

oh yeah!

speaking of idiots and food, guess what the wannabe nurse critter got for a xmas bonus.

frozen pig butt.

do you have any idea what i'd do to somebody if they gave me a frozen pig butt for any reason, much less what is supposed to be a gift?

HOHOHOHO! merry frickin' xmas! where's my bleepity-bleeping chainsaw?!?

sorry about that lil' blog! ;)

~*~

happy eGGie day lil' blog!
:D

is funnie, yes?

the xmas spirit is alive and well!

see?

i'm a naughty eGGie!

be good lil' blog!
:)

Friday, December 23, 2005

can you do that?

i saw this picture other day...

let's boogie lil' blog!

...and thought it was the funniest thing.

merry xmas to me and stuff

sooo, like my poor, little monitor finally got to the point that i could barely read anything on it. it was so dark and fuzzy... it was just sad really.

poor monitor.

:(

the female parental unit asked me a while back what i wanted for greedy kid's day, so i told her.

she couldn't find it.

oh well.

so i told her my monitor was probably gonna pass on to the next life and that i needed another one.

one of the female sibling units called around to some of the computer shops near her work, and happened to find a few used monitors. which was cool, as i don't care if it's new or not, i just want one that actually WORKS.

this one place had two used monitors in stock, and one of them was a 19 inch flat panel monitor for a pretty reasonable price.

at first, i was thinking lcd monitor, but i knew for that price it couldn't be.

as it turns out i was right.

after getting the REAL information on the "flat screen" monitor, i still thought it was a good price, so they got it.

the female sibling unit brought it by late yesterday, and since it was for me, i got to carry it in.

not that i'm complaining, much, but... that's just mean.

i think they wanted to see me drop it.

so after a few hours of dragging it by its cord, i managed to lug it into the house, up a few steps, and eventually to my berry own room. then i actually got it on my desk.

now keep in mind that this is a used monitor, it has no instructions or anything else with it.

what it did have was a little, sticky piece of paper attached, which had the price and "19 inch monitor" written on it.

well, the price was right, the fact that it was a monitor was right, but the size was wrong.

while i'm not like a super expert on monitors or anything, the fact that it was so dang heavy and it dwarfs any monitor i had ever used before kind of clued me in a bit.

i looked up the model number (which was printed on the back of the monitor) and discovered, not to my surprise, that it's actually 21 inch.

ummm, does that kind of thing happen a lot?

so now all i need is a bigger desk. :|

i have a feeling that i'm either going to go blind, or get a wireless keyboard so i can go sit in the hall.

granted, at least i can actually read what's on the screen, but now i feel like i'm in a movie theatre or something?

it only took me about 30 minutes to figure out how to adjust the monitor settings so the screen didn't jump every time i opened a window. that combined with brightness levels that could possibly put the sun to shame were somewhat annoying. i was starting to suspect that that was the reason the price was so low. actually it very well could have been. had i not clicked on a VERY out of the way setting, i might have considered returning it, maybe.

that one little setting fixed the screen flicker and the brightness all at one time.

isn't that great?

and i still have no idea wth it was for.

though technically, i still haven't found any brightness or contrast settings...

oh well, now if i can figure out how to move it about two feet further away from my chair i might be okay.

~*~

okay, so, now i feel even smaller than usual.

~*~

i guess i'm happy that i can play on the computer some more, as the last several, several weeks have pretty much sucked. trying to read super fuzzy stuff gives me a noggin ache.

~*~

a few months ago i started learning a little bit about cascading style sheets, as i wanted to make what few web pages i made look a little better.

you know what?

the more i learn about them, the more i like them.

you can do some pretty neat things with css.

mostly what i currently use it for is reformatting fanfiction stories that i find online, and make them more appealing... to me at least.

a lot of the fanfiction sites i frequent have all of their content as plain text files. which is okay, but highly boring.

i happen to like a little color, and a LOT less white on pages. black text on a white background REALLY annoys me.

i think css is really great, but some of it is beyond me (for the moment any ways).

i was finally able to put to use a rather nifty feature in opera (that's a web browser), that lets you use your own style sheet.

believe me when i say this, THAT'S REALLY COOL!

i've been to a LOT of sites that use css to format their pages, that didn't do things in a way that i found pleasing, or in some cases even legible. any site that sets their fonts to a fixed size can go rot!

that's just mean!

i guess i noticed it so much before because my previous monitor was so small. they really need to take that kind of thing into account.

~*~

sim eun jin (formerly of baby v.o.x) released her first solo album recently.

i never could figure out who the lead singer of baby v.o.x was, or if they even had one.

pretty sad, isn't it?

even after seeing some of their music videos, it didn't help much.

~*~

i feel weird.

it's kind of like when i first got some real speakers for the pc. you know, something that didn't sound like it came from the bargain bin at the ¢10 store.

pretty much the first thing i did after the monitor was "configured" properly was watch some anime.

that was fun. considering that it's nearly twice the size of my poor, little tv, it was rather interesting.

~*~

watch this ...eGGie eGGie eGGie eGGie eGGie...

is weird, yes?

~*~

HA! i found a pdf user manual online for a "similar" monitor. brightness and contrast have now been set!

i so happy!

well, sort of. it does make things a little more tolerable.

you know, had i not been blinded by the monitor itself, i might have noticed the little "contrast" and "brightness" icons on the front.

i'm sure i would have noticed them eventually... after i turned the monitor off.

~*~

i'm so bored, and boring too.

lil' blog, you look a lot biggerer too!

be good. ;)

the eGGie music review

i'm listening to this album, right?

and i'm thinking, one of the guys singing sounds really familiar, but not.

is weird, yes?

maybe it's that vuja de thingie?

anywho, since i have no idea how to make unicode work in my little bloggie, i made a picture.

is great, yes?

the following tracks from clon's "victory" album happen to be rather fun and entertaining... all at the same time even!

bow down before the almighty eGGie! ...or not

clon tends to lean more towards dance music, but this album had a lot of guests, so i guess that's why there was so much diversity and stuff?

they kind of remind me of another korean group, goofy.

and, yes, they are.

~*~

wanna boogie lil' blog?

stoopid ice!

the power went out again today. though this time it was a little more wide-spread.

at least it waited till the sun was up.

polite, wasn't it?

~*~

never let it be said that either snow, sleet nor freezing rain (much less speed limits) ever stopped the local race car driver mail man from getting the job done!

what a moron.

everything was covered with ice, and he was still trying to break the sound barrier.

like the saying goes, "that's what cemeteries are for."

~*~

you like scented candles?

i don't, but it seems that everyone else here does. i had to go outside just so i could breath.

proper respect.

i'm sure that they know what it is, but i doubt they've considered actually giving any... to me or anyone else.

~*~

the power is flickering again.

yay. :|

~*~

heard a nifty little song the other day: "in little time" by garnet crow.

it's a little sad, but then, most ballads are.

~*~

eGGie news update...

'kay, this'll be fun!

sooo, a little earlier, while the power was still out, it was decided that the female parental unit would go stay at the other female sibling unit's home - to watch over the dorky, demon nephew unit tomorrow.

that in and of itself is pretty bad, but...

part of the decision was made because the power had not as yet come back on. approximately five minutes before they were to depart said power returned and all was again well with the world! (not really, but we'll pretend it was so for the purposes of this story.)

being the psychic eGGie™ that i am, i made the statement that "when you get up there the power's going to go out, you know that, right?"

the female parental unit paid me no mind (much like usual), and they departed in great haste... or something.

about thirty minutes later, there was a telephone call from the dorky, demon nephew unit's mother. something along the lines of "oh my dog! the power pole blew up, the power lines fell down, and the yard's on fire!"

needless to say, they didn't have any power.

i was wrong, i admit that. the power went out before they even got there.

but that's only because they took longer to arrive at their destination than usual.

oh well, butter ruck next thyme!

~*~

be good lil' blog, hope your power stays on!

;)

mumble mumble...

so like, uh, the dorky wannabe-nurse decided to take up smoking.

is great, yes?

i can honestly say that when she walks by it takes my breath away, literally.

it makes me gag.

it even left an icky taste in my mouth!

is weird, yes?

had to gargle with vinegar.

maybe that's weirdererer?

at least it gives me the opportunity to call her names.

:D

i was thinking of making her one of those nifty sash things like they use in pageants, that says "miss nasty ashtray 2005".

they do teach that smoking is bad for you in nursing school, right?

or maybe that's one of those things that should be common sense?

always get those confused.

silly me!

or better yet, silly her.

seriously, it's not my fault she's a moron.

though maybe it is my fault i have such a delicate nose?

~*~

sooo, i'm watching this anime, right?

and like they (according to the anime) have ¥100 shops in japan.

isn't that just the niftiest thing?

wonder if you can get anime or manga for a ¥100?

hmmmm

i bet it would probably suck.

~*~

you know what my least favorite part of winter is?

ice.

while i don't hate ice, i do believe that it has it's place.

which just so happens to be in a glass of water, somewhere in the vicinity of summer time, but that's just me. :P

~*~

yesterday was fun... after the power came back on.

i slept in late that morning, didn't get up till 5:30.

of course it was still dark, not like i care.

i had only been awake for about 30 minutes or so, and was just about to check my spam email, when everything (electrical) got weird and just faded out. they all came back on a few minutes later, but it wasn't to be. a few minutes after that the power went away... never to return. or so it seemed.

there's not really a lot you can do when the power goes out, and it's dark.

unlike the female parental unit, i don't like to waste candles or batteries for flashlights just to read. especially when the sun will be up in a hour or so.

again, that's just me.

~*~

i really shouldn't have to be the one to suggest calling the power company to report an outage, but i was.

she's like, "but it just happened!"

and?

having to bite my tongue is getting to be a rather annoying habit.

it's not like it has never happened before. in fact it happens every year. i can remember once a few years ago, we were without power for nearly two weeks. that was fun...

it would be nice if she could remember such things.

~*~

here's a nifty list of fun things you can do while enduring an ice-induced power outage:

  • sit in the dark
  • freeze
  • make little sniffling noises
  • think about what you'd rather be doing
  • stumble over things while trying to find a flashlight and/or candle

here's a nifty list of fun things you can't do while enduring an ice-induced power outage:

  • play on the computer
  • cook
  • flush the toilet (more than once)
  • take a bath and/or shower
  • wash your hands
  • bask in the glow of artificial lighting

while i'm sure that there are people that thoroughly enjoy activities from both of the aforementioned lists, i tend to enjoy the things you can do while actually having electricity.

terrible, aren't i?

~*~

and then?

and then?!?

i think i'll go write some more fanfiction

be good lil' blog!

:)

it's not odd, it's memorablex

i wrote that the other day, and saved it as a draft.

then forgot about it...

then i remembered i had forgotten something (again) and back-dated it using my supreme bloggie time-traveling abilities!

is great, yes?
